Weingart Center’s Permanent Supportive Housing Projects

We all know there is a homeless crisis. But do you know the numbers?

Between 2020 and 2022, there was a 4.1% increase in homelessness in Los Angeles County with homelessness up by about 18% in L.A. hotspots. Additionally, according to The Rand study, there are approximately 69,144 people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles.

Clearly, homelessness is a serious issue in Los Angeles and throughout the country.

Services + Housing: the Key Factors to Successfully Overcoming Homelessness

At the Weingart Center, we believe that no one deserves to be homeless and that those experiencing homelessness can get back on their feet with the right assistance. The two most essential parts of helping someone break their cycle of homelessness are comprehensive services and housing.

Programs & Services
Our comprehensive programs and services include medical/mental healthcare, substance abuse recovery, long-term case management, workforce development, education services, and specialized programs for women, the formerly incarcerated, and those affected by severe mental health diagnoses.

Innovative Housing Solutions
Our housing solutions focus on Transitional, Interim, and Permanent Supportive Housing.

Four Weingart Center Permanent Supportive Housing Projects, Currently in Development

This article highlights four of our permanent supportive housing projects that are currently in development. These housing solutions play a crucial role in fulfilling Weingart Center’s mission of providing those experiencing homelessness with essential tools designed to stabilize their lives, find permanent housing, and secure income.

600 San Pedro

600 S. San Pedro will be an 18-story high-rise and will have 302 units upon completion. Of these 302 units, 298 will be studio apartments, and four will be two-bedroom management units. This high-rise will house people experiencing homelessness. The project has obtained land use entitlements and is therefore closer to development.

7024 Broadway

7024 S. Broadway might be one of the smaller projects in development, but it’s still impressive, providing 52 units in its six stories. Of the 52 units, 40 will be studio apartments, 11 will be two-bedroom units, and one will be a two-bedroom management apartment. This permanent supportive housing project is intended for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Alveare

Alveare will be a 3-building, 7-story, 303-unit development that aims to provide generally affordable and permanent supportive housing to its target population of people experiencing homelessness, senior citizens, and families. This development will provide 98 permanent supportive units, 98 senior units, and 107 family units.

The Weingart Beacon

The Weingart Beacon is aimed at individuals experiencing homelessness. It is currently operating as interim housing until it's converted to permanent supportive housing in 2024. Once converted to PSH, this three-story development will consist of 91 units, of which there will be one studio management unit and 90 studio apartments. Services currently include case management, mental health services, substance abuse services, and personal storage. These services will continue once converted. The Weingart Beacon is currently pet-friendly and will continue being pet-friendly after conversion.

Each of these projects in development is part of the Weingart Center’s compassionate initiative to help those currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Los Angeles County. Our nonprofit organization aims to use these permanent supportive housing developments as a solution for those needing help getting back on their feet while they strive to become financially stable.
