What is Weingart Center?
Weingart Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Downtown Los Angeles that provides comprehensive services and housing for people experiencing homelessness. Our offerings include interim and permanent supportive housing, medical and mental health support, job training, legal aid, reentry support, and more.
What is Weingart Center’s mission?
Our mission is to empower and transform lives by delivering innovative solutions to break the cycle of homelessness. We provide people experiencing homelessness with the essential tools to stabilize their lives, secure income, and find permanent housing.
Who does Weingart Center serve?
We serve adults and young adults experiencing homelessness throughout the greater Los Angeles area—including seniors, veterans, women, members of the LGBTQAI+ community, and formerly incarcerated individuals.
How many people does the Center serve each year?
We serve approximately 6,000 people annually and provide more than 250,000 meals each year.
Where are you located?
Our main campus is at 566 S San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013.
Our Access Center is at 501 E 6th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021. Hours of operation are Monday–Friday, 7:30AM–5:00PM. The phone number is 213.833.5020. For after hours, call 213.627.5302. You can also contact our Access Center via our contact form.
What is the history of Weingart Center?
Weingart Center was established in 1983 in response to the growing crisis of homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded through the support of the Weingart Foundation, we began as a modest shelter and have grown into a leading provider of housing and wraparound services for thousands of individuals each year across greater Los Angeles.
Access & Eligibility
How can someone get help from Weingart Center?
Visit our Access Center in person during business hours. Intake coordinators will assist you in assessing your needs, completing paperwork, and connecting you to appropriate programs. After-hours assistance is available by phone.
Who is eligible for your services?
Anyone experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in Los Angeles County can seek help.
What should I bring with me?
Bring identification (such as a California ID or Social Security Card) if possible. If you don’t have ID, staff can help you obtain the needed documents.

Housing Programs & Services
What is Interim Housing?
Interim Housing offers temporary, supportive shelter to individuals experiencing homelessness while they work toward more stable, long-term housing. Residents have access to services like case management, three meals a day, healthcare, substance use counseling, life skills classes, and employment assistance. The goal of Interim Housing is to provide safety and support as clients transition to permanent housing. View Weingart Center’s Interim Housing options.
What is Permanent Supportive Housing?
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) integrates affordable, long-term housing with on-site, personalized support services. This program is designed for people facing additional challenges—such as chronic health conditions, disabilities, or trauma—and provides them with stability, community, and ongoing access to care. How are Interim Housing and Permanent Supportive Housing different?
Interim Housing
TYPE - temporary, transitional
GOAL - help stabilize and transition

Is Weingart Center involved in advocacy work?
