Challenging the Orthodoxy: Listen to Senator Kevin Murray (Ret.) Discuss Innovative Solutions on Swinerton Podcast

Weingart Center President & CEO, Senator Kevin Murray (Ret), welcomed the opportunity to discuss innovative ways to break the cycle of homelessness in Los Angeles with Tom Dioro, host of The Modern Built Environment Podcast for Swinerton.

We continue to uphold our mission to empower and transform lives by delivering interim and permanent supportive housing solutions coupled with comprehensive wraparound services that are designed to break the cycle of homelessness. In striving to fulfill this mission, Senator Murray believes we must be courageous to challenge the orthodoxy, provide multidimensional solutions to the problem, and learn to adapt.

The Weingart Center is at the forefront of solving the homeless crisis in Los Angeles by providing the necessary tools, training, and support to help unsheltered individuals move from the streets or shelters into self-sufficient, permanent housing. By teaming up with Swinerton, the Weingart Center is able to develop innovative construction methods that provide housing solutions quickly and efficiently. One innovative solution to improve the speed of construction is to build structures with prefabricated materials and modular components.

The Weingart Center and Swinerton are collaborating on two large projects. The first is a 51-unit building with studio units for seniors and senior Veterans experiencing homelessness and situated on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. The second project with Swinerton is our most significant endeavor with them to date, a 278-unit building with 19 stories.

Listen to the full interview of Senator Kevin Murray and his practice of collaborating and providing multipronged solutions to problem-solving.
