No Judgment, Just Help: Project Street Vet Partners with Weingart Center

At The Weingart Beacon, a 91‑bed interim housing site operated by Weingart Center, pets are more than companions—they are family and emotional anchors during a time of transition. For many residents working to stabilize their lives, their dog or cat is a source of comfort, structure, and unconditional love. Yet the cost of veterinary care can be out of reach for people experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

That is where Project Street Vet comes in. Founded to ensure that pets belonging to people facing homelessness can receive quality veterinary care, Project Street Vet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with communities across the country to provide free exams, vaccines, basic treatments, and follow‑up support for pets whose families are struggling to afford care. Their services are specifically dedicated to pet parents experiencing homelessness or housing vulnerability, and all care and supplies are provided at no cost.

On May 27, 2026, Project Street Vet brought a free Pet Wellness Clinic directly to The Weingart Beacon. Throughout the event, volunteer veterinarians and support staff offered wellness exams, vaccinations, flea and tick treatment, nail trims, and ear cleaning for residents’ pets living on site. The team spent time listening to pet parents’ concerns, answering questions, and making sure each animal received personalized, compassionate care.

For Beacon residents, the clinic meant much more than a day of services. Many shared how relieved they felt knowing their pets were up to date on vaccines and protected from preventable illnesses and parasites. Others talked about how hard it can be to choose between covering basic expenses and seeking veterinary care—and how this event removed that impossible choice. Having Project Street Vet on site affirmed that their relationships with their animals are seen, respected, and worth investing in.

This partnership reflects Weingart Center’s holistic approach to ending homelessness in Los Angeles. As a comprehensive human services organization, Weingart Center provides interim housing, permanent supportive housing, case management, health and mental health care, and employment and income support to help people build stable, independent lives. By hosting a pet wellness event at The Weingart Beacon, we are able to support not only the individual resident, but the entire household—including the four‑legged family members that are so central to their well‑being.

We are deeply grateful to Project Street Vet for bringing their “no judgment, just help” philosophy to our community and for showing our residents’ pets the same dignity and care they show every day. Together, we are working toward a future where access to housing and veterinary care are not privileges, but parts of a stable, healthy life for every family.
