Celebrating Juneteenth with our permanent supportive housing residents

This Juneteenth, Weingart Center celebrated the day across several of our permanent supportive housing sites — gathering with residents, staff, and community leaders to mark a holiday that speaks to resilience, liberation, and joy.

The Weingart Mayfair

We were honored to be joined by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, State Representative Justine Jones, and Weingart Center CEO Senator Kevin Murray for a powerful celebration filled with art and culture. The afternoon included amazing performances by singer Subrina Muller, Estella the Poet, and musician Darul Darden — each bringing heart and history to the day.

Residents and staff gathered over plates of delicious soul food — sharing conversation, laughter, and reflections on the meaning of Juneteenth.

The Weingart Willows

Juneteenth at the Willows brought folks together for a barbecue, backyard games, and time to connect. It was a celebration of freedom, but also of community — the kind that’s nurtured one neighbor, one meal, and one smile at a time.

Juneteenth serves as a reminder that while strides have been made toward racial justice, the fight isn’t over — especially when it comes to housing equity and support for those who have survived homelessness. At Weingart Center, we’re proud to honor this day not just with words, but with action — by continuing to build housing, healing, and hope for all.
