Building upon the success of Project Roomkey, Homekey is the next phase in the State’s response to protecting Californians experiencing homelessness who are at high risk for serious illness and are impacted by COVID-19.

Administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), grant funding was made available to local public entities and housing authorities to purchase and rehabilitate hotels, motels, and vacant apartment buildings in order to convert them into interim or permanent, long-term housing.

The Weingart Center is happy to announce that it won the Homekey RFP bid with Hotel Solaire, now to be known as The Beacon. The Beacon, located at 1710 7th Street in Downtown Los Angeles, will open as interim housing and then convert to permanent supportive housing.
