Meet Nicole - A Success Story
On March 24, 2021, Nicole walked into our Downtown Access Center — located at 501 E 6th Street in Downtown Los Angeles — wishing to enroll in our Winter Shelter Program.
While in the Winter Shelter Program, Nicole mentioned to her Case manager that she would like to be in a women-focused program in order to work on permanent housing and personal goals. Four days after coming to the Weingart Center, Nicole, accepted a program transfer to the new Enhanced Bridge Housing for Women Roadmap Program.
During her first case management meeting, Nicole expressed that she had been homeless while living in Michigan and Minnesota. With hope in her heart, Nicole decided to move to Los Angeles and seek out a stable community and a place to live. During subsequent monthly meetings and wellness checks, Nicole was assisted with the acquisition of various necessary documents such as a California ID and SSI Letter. She was also directed to mental and health services at the JWCH Clinic.
In June, Nicole was matched to an SRO unit. Her case manager made sure that she had all her documents and submitted all necessary paperwork to complete the housing application. In July, Nicole was able to move in with the help of Weingart Center’s in-house problem-solving funding, which provided Nicole with her first month’s pro-rated rent and deposit.
Now that Nicole is in her new apartment, she is planning on enrolling in college and working on her self-development and mental health.
