Innovative Street Art Experience Highlights Los Angeles’ Homeless Epidemic and Raises Funds for Homeless Center

The Weingart Center partnered with David & Goliath to promote the “Text Them Home” fundraising campaign that integrated homeless volunteers and art.

Shedding light on the more than 50,000 homeless people living on the streets of Los Angeles, the Weingart Center hosted a street art experience that encouraged the public to change their perspective on how they view homeless people and promote the “Text Them Home” fundraising campaign.

A chalk artist used the sidewalk as his canvas and drew simple, yet realistic scenes around homeless individuals lying or sitting on the street. A sign asked for a $10 donation to the Weingart Center accompanied by the message: “Text Them Home, text HOMELESS to 50555 and help the 50,000 Homeless in LA find a new place to call home.” MSG/ DATA rates may apply. Full terms at mGive.com/T and read the privacy policy. All proceeds will benefit the Weingart Center’s many homeless assistance programs.

WHO: Homelesss volunteers: Kimberly Meineke, Laura Roberts, and Thomas Garcia.

WHERE: Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, 3rd Street and Traction.

SCHEDULE: November 16, 8:00-4:00 p.m. - Artist John Stevens II draws various scenes, and AmeriCorps team members volunteer to participate as homeless men and women in art experience for general public.
