WEINGART CENTER RECEIVES FIRST-TIME GRANT FROM S. MARK TAPER FOUNDATION
Grant Provides Core Support Critical to Serving Homeless Population in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA - December 14, 2009 —  The Weingart Center Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves homeless men and women in Los Angeles, is pleased to announce a first-time award totaling $50,000 from the S. Mark Taper Foundation.

All funds received from this grant will support the Weingart Center’s operational needs.  The Weingart Center empowers people and transforms the lives of homeless individuals by providing transitional residential housing, medical and mental health treatment, substance abuse recovery, education and workforce development, and long term case management.  This substantial gift is critical to maintaining the operation of the organization’s programs and services, especially in this time of economic hardship.

“The Weingart Center is widely recognized for its expertise in helping homeless individuals to get back on their feet and lead fulfilling lives,” states Ray Reisler, Executive Director of the S. Mark Taper Foundation.  “We are determined to support organizations that make such a significant impact on the Los Angeles community and its residents.”

“We are very pleased and grateful to receive first-time support from the S. Mark Taper Foundation, especially at a time when our state is struggling financially and making difficult budget decisions that directly affect our programs,” says Gregory C. Scott, President and CEO of the Weingart Center Association, “We look forward to having a strong partnership with the Taper Foundation, as we both have a keen desire to improve the lives of very vulnerable individuals in Los Angeles.”

The S. Mark Taper Foundation, founded in 1989, is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives by supporting nonprofit organizations and their work in our communities.
