WEINGART CENTER RECEIVES $150,000 GRANT FROM WEINGART FOUNDATION
Grant Provides Core Support Critical to Serving Los Angeles’ Homeless Population

Los Angeles, CA - November 24, 2009 —  The Weingart Center Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves homeless men and women in Los Angeles, is pleased to announce an award totaling $150,000 from the Weingart Foundation.

All funds received from this grant will support the Weingart Center’s operational needs.  The Weingart Center empowers people and transforms the lives of homeless individuals by providing transitional residential housing, medical and mental health treatment, substance abuse recovery, education and workforce development, and long term case management.  This substantial gift is critical to maintaining the operation of the organization’s programs and services, especially in this time of economic hardship.

“We are very fortunate to receive core operating support from the Weingart Foundation in the midst of a very challenging economic environment” says Gregory C. Scott, President and CEO of the Weingart Center Association, “We continue to be extremely grateful for the long standing partnership with the Weingart Foundation, and their commitment to supporting low income communities.”

The Weingart Foundation, a philanthropic institution which focuses its grant making on programs that address the health, human services and education needs of under-served communities, was instrumental in establishing the Weingart Center Association 25 years ago by donating an 11-story building that still houses 600 homeless men and women every day, as well as providing continued support over the agency’s history.

The Weingart Center Association and Weingart Foundation are two separate entities and are not affiliated with each other.
