Specialized Shelter
The Specialized Shelter service at the Weingart Centerprovides short-term housing, mental health services, and other support services to severely mentally ill individuals who are chronically homeless. We help the participants in this program stabilize their mental and physical health, find appropriate housing and access available benefits.

Short-Term Housing
Sometimes, having a place to stay when an emergency situation arises makes a huge difference in someone’s life. It’s hard to focus on looking for work or stabilizing your life when you have no place to live. The Short-term Housing service provides housing in our residential building to 50 homeless men and women on General Relief. The average length of stay for these individuals is 14 days, and can be extended based on needs.

Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation
Volunteers of America (VOA) operates the Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation program and the short-term Detox Unit located at the Weingart Center.  The VOA program works in conjunction with our agency, staff, and participants to assist with the continuum of care by providing substance abuse services.

Basic Necessities
We provide our participants with all the basic necessities — transitional housing, meals, laundry and toiletries, voicemail and mail drop, etc. — so they can focus on transforming their lives and their future goals.

In Partnership
Individuals are referred to the Specialized Shelter program by Downtown Mental Health, an off-site clinic operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

The Short-term housing program, onsite at the Weingart Center Association, is provided by the Los Angeles Department of Social Services.

The Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation program, onsite at the Weingart Center, is operated by Volunteers of America (VOA).
