Internship Opportunities
Training Others to be Leaders in Mental Health Services
The highly skilled Clinical Services Department at the Weingart Center Association provides all mental health services at the organization, and oversees a Clinical Intern Training program for MSW, MFT and Chemical Dependency Counseling students.
Our hands-on Clinical internship program allows students to work directly with homeless individuals and gain generalist social work experience.
Interns receive training and experience in areas including: substance abuse, domestic violence, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, chronic mental illness, and crisis intervention. Interns work closely with staff to provide substance abuse treatment groups, individual counseling sessions, and on-going mental health support groups.
Depending on their area of interest, interns are placed in the Clinical Services Department or in one of our various residential programs if they prefer to tailor their experience by working solely with women, veterans or people on parole. Interns also perform outreach to bring people on the streets of Skid Row into the programs, as well as do community liaison work, collaborating with other social services agencies.
Who’s Eligible?
The internship program is open to first and second year students from UCLA, USC, Cal State Long Beach and Los Angeles, and other colleges and universities in the greater Los Angeles area. Students working towards their MSW, MFT or Chemical Dependency Counselor certificate receive supervised hours towards their degree or license. Internships last for one school year (September – May).
