Homeless Programs

Homelessness is one of the most critical issues facing the city of Los Angeles. It is not enough to merely provide a homeless shelter and a hot meal.  Homeless programs that offer a variety of services, or a continuum of care, are vital to addressing such a serious problem.  The Weingart Center, located in downtown Los Angeles, offers comprehensive services to such populations as homeless men, homeless women, homeless veterans, mentally ill homeless individuals, homeless parolees and people with substance abuse issues.  Why is this important?  Although all homeless persons face some of the same challenges, homeless women, for example, often have different issues to address than homeless veterans.  This is why the Weingart Center tailors its homeless programs to meet the needs of diverse demographics.

The homeless programs at the Weingart Center address all of the issues that led to homelessness while also giving men and women the skills and resources they need to move forward with their lives and live independently.  All of our residential homeless programs offer transitional housing, nutritious meals, case management, clothing assistance, laundry and toiletries, and even voicemail.  We have trained and licensed staff that offers substance abuse recovery treatment and mental health services.   We also help homeless individuals reunite with their families, repair and establish their credit, and develop healthy relationships.

Our homeless services also include increasing someone’s education level and making them marketable in a tough economy.  To do this, we have a computer lab with self-paced software for improving basic education in reading, writing and arithmetic plus employment services staff that works directly with our homeless participants to prepare their resumes and teach job search and interviewing skills.  Our on-site training programs in customer service, food service and janitorial service provide valuable hands-on training for homeless individuals who have little to no work experience.   We even have job developers who go out into the community to establish relationships with hiring organizations to find job leads for the homeless men and women living at the Weingart Center.

The Weingart Center’s homeless programs are innovative and comprehensive, and we are proud of the work we do.
