Homeless Nonprofit

Homelessness is a serious problem in America.  Is there a solution?   There are many types of organizations and agencies, including homeless shelters, missions, halfway houses, transitional housing facilities, clothing providers, food banks, etc, that address this issue.  In fact, any group that provides a service or item to homeless individuals can become a homeless nonprofit.  With Los Angeles being the Homeless Capital of the U.S., homeless charities are definitely necessary.

But not all homeless nonprofits are created equal.

Granted, anyone who sets out to help the homeless in any way has a kind and compassionate heart and recognizes the severity of the issue at hand.  But giving a hand-out such as a hot meal or a pair of socks only eases an immediate symptom of homelessness but does nothing to address its root cause or, more importantly, suggest a solution for change.

Helping homeless individuals understand why they became homeless as well as teaching them how to be self-sufficient which helps men and women to actually break the cycle of homelessness.  The most comprehensive and innovative homeless nonprofits, like the Weingart Center, do this quite successfully.

The Weingart Center:

  • Treats the symptoms of homelessness by providing basic necessities such as shelter, meals, clothing, toiletries and access to shower facilities;
  • Addresses the causes of homelessness through drug and alcohol treatment, counseling sessions, life skills classes, and mental health services;
  • Encourages a self-sufficient future by providing on-site job training, interviewing techniques, and job placement assistance as well as teaching money management techniques and requiring a mandatory 75% savings plan;
  • Promotes well-being by helping homeless women and men to increase their self-confidence and reunite with their families.

Individuals who graduate from the Weingart Center’s comprehensive homeless programs have hope, goals and a future.

The Weingart Center makes it easy for you to contribute.  The next time you see a homeless person take out your cell phone and text HOMELESS to 50555 to donate $10*.  Jamie Foxx encourages you to do it. So does Ryan Seacrest.  They know the amazing work that the Weingart Center does on a daily basis.

Donate to a respected homeless nonprofit that is doing significant work to end homelessness, and you can be part of the solution.
