EVENT: Women Building LA

Women Building LA is an event with three purposes:

• Raise money and awareness for the Weingart Center’s efforts to combat poverty and break the cycle of homelessness
• Bring developers, engineers, and other entities with heavy involvement in the construction and rehabilitation industry in Los Angeles together for networking with each other and Public officials
• Bring public officials from the City and County of Los Angeles together to network with these developers and better understand their priorities and perspective

Los Angeles is a vibrant, diverse community with a real estate market that remains relatively strong in contrast to the national picture. The city has infrastructure needs and plans that will benefit from buy-in from and cooperation with private developers, such as the America Fast Forward projects. The non-profit sector identifies the need for increased housing stock, especially on the lower end of the market, to alleviate overcrowding and homelessness; it will take combined efforts from City entities and private industry to make this happen.

At the Women Building LA event, stakeholders can make connections with developers who have an interest in how their projects interact with the social fabric of the public sphere. This is an opportunity for those on the public side of the development industry to connect with the private side, discuss priorities and challenges, and begin to cooperate towards a productive future for the City of Los Angeles.

Best of all, the proceeds for the event go to benefit the Weingart Center, a member of the Skid Row community for nearly three decades. The Weingart Center has a strong stake in seeing our economy flourish, with jobs, housing, and a place for all kinds of Angelenos going forward.
