Creating a Veteran's Lounge

January 23, 2010

Did you know that 16% of Los Angeles' 48,000 homeless people are veterans? That's three times higher than their proportion of the general population. If you support our troops, consider supporting the Weingart Center which helps homeless veterans reintegrate back into society.  In fact, we have a special request for you…

We held a Veteran’s Day celebration for our Vets and announced that our gift to them will be a new lounge area.  With more veterans coming into our program than ever before, this lounge space is increasingly important, but we need your help to make this happen.

We have identified a room in our building to renovate, and interior designer Amanda Rosbrook of Xie Xie Home has generously donated her time to design a space worthy of our Vets.  Now, we just need some funding. We’re hoping you can help…

This lounge will provide a place for our Vets to socialize, play cards, watch TV as a group and read.  Having a warm and inviting social area is vital to helping our veterans reintegrate back into society, especially since many of these individuals have PTSD and tend to isolate themselves.  The lounge will even have a WiFi connection so individuals may use their laptops without charge.
