Programs and Services

AmeriCorps -- Hope for the Homeless

This program reaches out to individuals and families in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles and provides them with specialized services, such as distribution of hygiene kits, clinical information, program referrals and service referrals.

Supportive Residential Services (SRS) Program

Entry level program offering individualized, case management services for high-risk homeless clients, leading to housing, employment, medical and mental health care, education, and alcohol and drug treatment.

Project Paycheck Program

Focused, transitional program for highly motivated, employable clients.

Recuperative Care

Short term program, operated with JWCH Institute and staffed by RNs, helping homeless individuals, who have been discharged to the streets by area hospitals, recover from serious illness or injury.

HATS/HELP (HIV/AIDS)

Programs, in association with JWCH Institute, for homeless individuals who are HIV+, linking them to the nexus of AIDS service programs.

Specialized Shelter Program

Support for severely and chronically mentally ill individuals referred by Downtown Mental Health.

DPSS Voucher Program

Short term housing for men and women applying for General Relief.

Volunteers of America (VOA)

Alcohol and drug rehabilitation and detoxification programs operated by Volunteers of America.

Veterans Program

Comprehensive transitional housing program for homeless or at-risk veterans.

Women's Renaissance

Transitional program for homeless women, linked to SRS, and Project Paycheck.

Access Center

Walk-in center providing information and referral, case advocacy and specialized social services to homeless and near homeless individuals and families.

Leavey Learning Center

The Weingart Center, in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District offers classes such as basic reading and math skills, GED preparation, consumer economics, computer literacy and applications, ESL, job readiness and vocational education.

Leavey Employment Center

Skills and education assessment, employment plan, job preparatory training, training referrals, labor market information, basic skills instruction, job search and placement, transportation vouchers, OJT, and post-placement support.

General Relief Opportunities for Work (GROW)

GROW is a collaborative partnership with the Weingart Center Association, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS), and the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). Individuals filing for general relief benefits are mandated to take part in this program with the goal of obtaining permanent employment and self-sufficiency through a short-term, intensive job preparedness and employment search curriculum.

Community Voice Mail (CVM)

Through a partnership with Community Technology Institute (CTI) and as part of a national network of Community Voice Mail providers, the Weingart Center offers voice mailboxes, FREE OF CHARGE, to social services agencies throughout Los Angeles County to promote global telecommunications access for the homeless.

Clinical Services

The Substance Abuse/Multi-Diagnosed Specialized Services project's purpose is to stop the seemingly endless cycling of mentally ill and relapsing substance abusing homeless individuals.
