Lawrence McGee

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Lawrence McGee arrived in Los Angeles in October,1999. Lawrence is a shining example of how a client can successfully apply the Weingart Center's "continuum of care" philosophy. Suffering from years of chronic substance abuse and unable to pay his rent, Lawrence found himself living on the streets and in local shelters. He came to the Access Center one day to speak with a case manager. The case manager quickly assessed that he could benefit greatly from our programs, and referred him to the SRS program.

After entering the program, Lawrence benefited from the continuum of care and ended up at the SuperTrack program. He then enrolled at Los Angeles Trade Tech College to receive state certification as a plumber. While in the program, he worked diligently on other issues that arose from his substance abuse. He repaired broken relationships his credit, and began dealing with life on life's terms.

Lawrence is now working with Roto-Rooter Plumbing Company. He has an apartment in the Los Angeles area. He continues to be active in his recovery by attending regular meetings 2-3 times weekly and stays in contact with Weingart Center staff, oftentimes expressing his gratitude for the opportunity he received at the Center to change his life.
